It's a list of detectors from a shipment from ML not a list of detectors stolen from customers hence the close serial numbers

The first paragraph read:

Recently, Minelab have had a shipment of GPX-4500 metal detectors stolen, and these units have now been appearing on the gray market and on sites like eBay

...so you would imagine that a shipping container or a semi-trailer might have gone missing, so if that's the case and they are all new, then it's not strange that the serial numbers would be fairly close or even in running order.

Better hurry, I hear it was Swan and Gillard. I see your in Rooty Hill, if your real quick you could catch her but I hear for them to get the budget back to even close to a 40 billion deficit they have peeled the stickers off them, put gpx 5500 on them and are asking 11,500 each. Very Happy Razz Razz

When are ML going to bring out a security code system that when you buy a new machine you have to contact ML with the serial number of that machine and they then intern give you the security code to start up the machine. Then you can change it to suit your self. And evey time you start up your machine you have to punch in your code. The machine is useless without the code. If you forget your code you can contact ML again with the serial number and they cheek to see if it is stolen, if not they then give you there code again for that machine and then you can change it to suit your self. When you sell that machine your code go's with it and that person then can change it to suit them selves. Problem solved, no more stolen detectors.

Wombat, maybe it might be better to last 4 hours or more, I'd hate to be punching in numbers every time I stop for a smoko. Mad

They only sell for $2100 over there, after currency conversion. Just shows how much we get ripped off here paying just over 4k for the same thing.

Your not wrong there someday. Couldn't make my mind up as to whether I delete this thread upon the end of its run,or let it run another month because of its importance. Members must have had a gut-full seeing me bump this thread so many times back to the top.Thank god that someone else from management, with a little more common sense than I,finally put a sticky on it.Embarassed Laughing Q24 Q35

Perhaps we should all be ringing "old great aunt Mary" and offering here an extra dollar or two to buy our detectors for us, and send them over as 2nd hand goods/gift?? Cannot believe how badly we get ripped off here. Q07
