Just been reported on local ABC radio of a lucky find this week for a metal detector operator in the Ballarat area.

Don't forget the additional premium price a slug that size and shape will also attract shiraz. I do hope the buyers get a permit to sell it overseas for they'll be grossly short changed for it here.

Re: 177 oz nugget Ballarat area
Yummy ! I would buy it to keep it here if i had the $$$
This is sad
The largest gold nugget 'officially' reported as having been found in New Zealand weighed just over 99 ounces and was discovered on the West Coast near Ross in 1909. It was named the “Hon. Roddy”, after the then Minister of Mines, the Hon. Roderick McKenzie. Soon after being found the “Hon. Roddy” was bought by the New Zealand Government and then given as a gift to the British Royal Family. Upon arrival in England it was melted down to be made into a tea service for use in Buckingham Palace .

Hey blisters when someone tells you where it was supposedly found, aren't you supposed to do a 180 degree turn and look in the other direction?

Re: 177 oz nugget Ballarat area
How good is that!
I reckon as more of the goldfields are depleted of targets, all that will be left are high trash areas and big screamer signals.
Most likely some of those big screamers are beautiful big nuggets like this one.

I believe there are still big nuggets no matter which town in the gold fields you are it. Just at greater depth or in that mountain over there or under someones house that has been built on old gold country or a slab of concrete where the new shed is going, we just dont know!

The VIC goldfields alone have such massive areas, that when I drive through there, I think surely metal detectors have not been over most of this ground. I would be suprised if theres been metal detectors over even 5% of the goldfields land.

“He rushed to tell his wife when he found it and she didn’t believe him at first. He is going to pay off a lot of bills and pay off his house - it’s a real life changer.
