Post  Guest on Mon Dec 21, 2009 6:24 pm

my GP4000 can't handle my 24 inch Coiltek DD, just goes off all the time like detecting a minefield, works fine with the 3000 and others........................

My 4000 can't handle big coils

Post  Tarnagulla on Mon Dec 21, 2009 6:58 pm

Claimpeg,
My 4500 wouldn't handle big coils, it kept coming up coil overload on the screen but the same coil worked fine on the mates detector.
I sold the 4500 and bought a 400 and use any coil without a problem.
I rang Minelab about it and they said it was a coil fault , don't make sense to me.

I've run the Coiltek 24"DD, the Nugget Finder 20" mono and the Coiltek 24" x 12" UFO on my old 4000 with no problems. I currently favour the 20" NF mono or the 25" NF mono on my 4500 whenever the terrain allows me to run them, and have never had a problem. I've also used an 18" Coiltek salt coil, a 14"x9" NF mono and a 16" NF mono on my 4500. Maybe it has to do with the coils parameters as to whether it suits a particular machine as they are all supposedly slightly different. Cheers.

Is that a 24x12" DD Big Red or a round 24" DD you are talking about?

The only problem I had with a coil was back years ago with my 2100 or 2200 when I had a very large round custom round 30" or 36" off of Bob Garbutt that would not work properly and I could only use it on one channel. But I ran a round 24" DD and it worked just fine on my 2200.
