Post  artrix on Tue Feb 09, 2010 2:27 am

Hi have a gpx 4500 and am wondering if my q/t button is working as it should.
If i press the button i only get a slight beep after i lift my thumb of it .... is this how it should be?
Also is setting ground balance its only function?
If q's sound lame im a bit of a numpty with these things at the moment

If you have the fixed/tracking switch on the front panel set to tracking, and you trigger the green button you will hear a chime. This tells you the fast ground balanced has commenced and you move the coil towards and away from the ground to achieve balance. This lasts for about 5 seconds. If you then move off and get a target, holding the button in "fixes" the ground balance as long as you hold it in. This allows multiple swings over a target without the risk of the detector trying to balance it out. When the button is released the chime will sound again and the above procedure is performed once again for ground balance.

If you have the switch set to Fixed you need to push and hold the green button (no chime this time), pump the coil to achieve ground balance and hold it steady close to the ground before you release the button. Cheers.

Thanks Sandy for your reply just wondering if when you mean a chime when triggered do you mean a single beep when button is released, as that is all I am hearing.
cheers

Hi Artrix,
If you are having a little trouble getting your head around the workings of the 4500 I suggest you run your machine in "fixed" until you master it.
Many faint signals are passed over while swinging in "tracking" because operators keep testing over the target and cancel it out because they forgot to press the the QT to put the machine in temporary "fixed."
Read your manual, while you go through the motions out in the field with your machine operating.
Practice, practice until you know all the settings for differing ground.

Good luck

Have you read the instruction book ?
I am one of those people that goes by the "If all else fails, read the instructions" type of people Laughing
I was doing just what Nightjar said and cancelling out weak signals....doh......
The Minelab manual is actually quiet enjoyable to read and makes everything very clear.
