old mine at murrumbateman

Post  kuujo50 on Sat Apr 10, 2010 3:33 pm

i have just been detecting in the hills near my place at murrumbateman and have found an old mine it is square cut straight down in a reef of quartz ,does anyone know of the history of this mine at all? we detected all around it and found an old miners chisel ,but no gold ,it is app 8 km east of the town of murrumbateman in the hills at about 700 mt above sea level, the quartz extends for about 200 meters along the ridge and the mine is about halfway ,also apears to be some ruins nearby .if anyone has any info on this area id appreciate it ,.

kuujo50,
That seems to line up with Detrackozi's "ML1 Portion 216" on the Oziexplorer map.

kuujo50,

If there is, I would like to find out where too. I never even new there was gold at Murrumbateman until you posted. I would rather go to a new area with a big chance of finding nothing, than constantly go over the thrashed areas at Hill End. It's more exciting and your getting to see new country.

I am off to Kalgoorlie area next week to look at a spot I have been flying around on Google. Hopefully I will pick up a few nuggets.

Cheers,

Jig

Hi Jigalong

All the best on your trip west. We should be heading off in a couple of weeks.

Just wondered how you got on with loading those waypoints?

Cheers
Lyn

Hi Lyn,

I actually thought it was a different list -one in the form of an Excel file. I have been able to get the Victorian sites file onto Google - it's a big file, but very helpful.

I spend all summer looking forward to going west and playing with my detecting and camping gear in anticipation.

Last year I got 65 nuggets, but they were all small. I need a big one to bring home to my wife, so that she will keep letting me go over there !

Good luck on your trip,

Jig

Jigalong

Great stuff on your nugget tally.
Chris & I managed almost 620 nuggies (all small also). (I did get a 17grammer in that tho') They all add up.
Hoping to have some more good luck this year.

If you have trouble loading those waypoints for WA just give me a call (08 82520102) and I'll talk you through them. I had a mighty fine teacher in DeTrack!

The waypoints are excellent value. A great start for research anywhere.

Cheers
Lyn

G'day Lyn,

Thanks for your kind offer. Now let me tell you a tale of woe.

My Mac computer (who fixes those ??) which runs Windows, went to God two weeks ago. Because I had an extended warranty, I had to get it repaired through Domayne who I bought it from. They quoted 1 to 6 weeks. SIX WEEKS !

All my WA info is on that, so I guess I will go away this year a little low on facts. When I get back, I will gladly take you up on your offer. Detrac has also offered to help which is great.

Good luck to you also,

Jig
