Thoughts on 1990 Toyota LandCruiser

Post  Pixulator on Mon Nov 10, 2014 7:25 pm

Looking to purchase.. does any one have good / bad to say about this vehicle in general?

It's a 1990 GLX Manual petrol with about 400K on the clock. Does any one know if this is 4 or 5 gear?

And what I might be looking at if the transmission or engine packs a sad in the first month? Smile

Registered but no RWC - so perhaps that's a bad sign!

Thanks

And 400k on a petrol is about its lifetime... unless it's $500 I'd steer clear!

T04 T04 T04 x 1000 Wink  great old toy to play in from time to time, good fishing spot boat hauler or good farm tractor but long in the tooth and likely to be thirsty.

Thanks for the advice guys,

I've got about $5K to spend at this point in time, any recommendations other then the land cruiser, or are you all saying go land cruiser if it's diesel and low km?

Seems like all the petrol 1990 LC's are 400000KM and $4000 Smile

Thanks

have a look at old Nissan D21 terrano's I bought one a few years ago and just cant kill it only a 2.7 turbo diesel but everyone that I have met that owns one loves the motor.. I drove mine from Brisbane to Kalgoolie and beyond a few years ago bounced it over the desert for 6 weeks and it never missed a beat. Its a medium sized 4wd so if you dont have a tribe with you its good.......And you can pick them up for less than 3000 ......Thasts leaves you 2000 for any prospecting trips

I'll check out the terrano... My main aim here is to pull a few seats out and install a bed and other storage so I'll just have to see them to get an idea of the space.

That is why my initial thought was the LC.. It looked roomy.

Maybe a bit small Im 190cm and I pulled the back seats out and slapped a rooled up mattress and it was ok but it was snug.

Deal done.. I found a 1997 Terrano manual I with 230k on the clock. Not been modified and looking at the body it's never seen the bush no dent scratches or rust. Seems to run well but I'm not a mechanic by any stretch.

Paid a little more then 3k but it's from a dealer and came with a 1 year warranty.

And yeah it looks roomy enough to for what I need.

Thanks for the advice guys my first cheaply off-roader should be fun Smile

GIO would not touch it as it is a jap import, the company I went with wanted $870pa for full cover so I just went for third part only at $230. But I have the standard cooling off period so if any one knows a good insurance company VIC I could switch.
