What to do next?

Post  digsy on Wed Mar 09, 2016 9:25 pm

Hi guys I am need of a bit of advice,

managed too find a small run of gold that run up a 45degree slope got too the top (which is only about 10metres) got 6 subbies and a couple of 1 to 2grams, all in a one and a half metre circle in total over 25 pieces of very reefy  gold in a pretty strait line.  At the top I cannot find anything in any other direction, the hill is flat then continues up in a north direction. Now I am getting excited and am thinking there's maybe  something under the ground not to far down, what I would like to know is would you have a crack and just dig it down a foot or so(very decomposed serpentine)  or should I let the area settle and try to loam it later??

Thanks digsy

Mate,
Time to do some research on the deposit characteristics of your area, then read all you can about loaming, this is your answer my friend, basically the only way!!! it may take a while but there is no doubt if there is still a deposit there you will find it!!
You must pay particular attention to the characteristics of the Gold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Digsy, serpentine forms on major fault lines. I have found gold in association with serpentine. Some of the most beautiful feathery crystalline gold specimens found have come from serpentine in some locations.

Detect all around the area and follow the fault line (which will be on geology maps). Best of luck

Rc thanks I was thinking that loaming is the way to go, just not over confident of my panning ability. Area is close to a old gold field. Reading everything I can i'm new to this game and sometimes struggle to understand and can take a while to sink into my thick head.

Tributer
thanks for the words of encouragement will be giving the area a very good going over for the next few months, didn't know that serpentine actually formed around major faults,  i have had little help from anyone and trying to interpret what you read gets to a bit hard sometimes when there's know one to point out some of the less obvious things.

Cheers guys Digsy

That is why we are here, if you can give us more info we may be able to help you more on things you have questions about!!

Be careful how much info too you want to keep your location a closely guarded secret.
good luck

Nice problem to have ,nothing a 20 ton excavator couldn't handle Razz  Mate sort of  similar geology to where I am ,with the green serpentine in my area ,there can quite often be a bit off  Quartz shed mixed in it ,i'd personally be ,
  * memorizing the ground type from where you dug the gold ,colour of soil ,quartz & serpentine minerilisation ,and by sometimes going to the furtherst uphill  from last nuggett location ,and seeing if the soil colour / minerilisation changes ,
  * certainly by loaming and digging some costeans 12 '' - 18'' deep ??!! ,but keeping in mind that there could be a shear zone in play here ,and that the actual leader could be off to either side ??
*trying every coil and timing you have at your disposal ,as no one coil /timing gets it all , good luck .

Hi guys gpxman here (use to be digsy) wasn't able to post up until now

just like to say thanks for the advice worked the fault line for about 3 months got some very nice gold from the area.
found where the gold had on 2 occasions come from but never turned into any thing solid just like gold ore with some specimans that just runs out and sdc goes quiet, also used a gold bug 2 that is crash hot finds the stuff that the sdc doesn't, one day I will get around to crushing it all but I don't think that will be for a long time yet

Thanks gpxman

what to do next

Post  gpxman on Sat Jan 21, 2017 1:24 pm

Hi Lee
I understand that mate just the area is seeing a lot attention from fellow prospectors at the moment (my fault should of never driven anywhere near the place) so when all settles down I will be back too see what I can do, I don't think anyone will find the particular spots as without the run of gold and mother natures work they are hard for even me to find when returning

cheers gpxman

The Area i found gold in had lots of old big nails, After the first couple i got the shites i used the pick and rake and took of a foot of dirt/clay off the top and raked it flat about 10 square metres then i ran the detector over again without nails to send off wild signals then i found a large one and a smaller 10 gram one, then i didnt find more, i went back two days later iand took off another foot off the same area and found 5 or 6 more nuggets
when i go back ill do it again and post findings.
Maybe where there are good signs like you describe its worth taking a week out of your life to hit it hard.. just in case.? Youd hate giving up on a spot only for someone behind to cash in on a bonanza.
r they your youtube vids ? i need someone to blame for getting me hooked SmileSmile
