Three For The Afternoon

Post  kiwijw on Sat Nov 05, 2016 9:32 pm

Hi guys, Last sunday Mrs JW & I went for a hell walk in to a high country back gully. It had been a couple of years since I had been in there & 3 years since Mrs JW had been in there. Here first time & it sleeted & snowed on us. I have been in there several times & the walk in & out is always a bit daunting. I found gold each time & this time I took in the modded 4500 & the 11" Elite coil & was hoping for great things. My plan was to go over an area where I did very well on with the NF sadie, my 2nd time in there

The sadie gold finds

& the last time with the NF 14 x 9 which I did well with too.

Back to the present.

At this stage Mrs JW & I were still driving when Mrs JW took this pic

Our place is in behind that little lake you can see just right of center.

These pics are courtesy of Mrs JW as I left my camera in the wagon in my hast to get under way.Rolling Eyes

This pic was taken after about half an hour of walking Nice fresh green spring growth with new born lambs frolicking about.

Up & up the old pack track before the saddle

You wouldnt want to fall off the track going through here.  affraid

We reach the saddle after one & a half hours of up hill grind.  V51

Looking down the gully & the old turned over gully workings & sluicings higher up on the right. Hard detecting grounds. The things we do.

Some of the sluiced areas

Due to me having no camera on me no pics of the finds....of which there werent many. Total.... three small bits for the modded 4500 & 11" Elite on the same flogged ground that I smashed it with the sadie & the NF 14 x 9. But still gold all the same. Total weight for the three bits  .75 of a gram affraid

Mrs JW caught me having a nap before heading back down. I was pocked. So was Mrs JW & she just sat there reading a mag & dozing in the sun. Oh ok...she came looking for me a few times & back filled a few holes. Q41

I am off tomorrow for another hunt. Cheers & Good luck out there

Hi there Jen, Thank you. Yes...Mrs JW is a good girl.....but I doubt very much if she will venture back in there again. As beautiful as it is. She just kept saying how stunning it was but the walk isn't to her liking. She is going up to Auckland in a couple of weeks so I may go back in there & camp out for a few days & give it a good flogging & that may be my last time in there. Having said that though I may be getting a zed so I may have to go back & do it all over again Rolling Eyes Thanks for dropping by. Good luck out there

Great story and pics again jw.You certainly deserve all the gold from in there.I suppose thats what makes it such a good spot is the fact its a bit of a trek getting in there and keeps others away.

Cheers

Phil

Great looking country, kiwijw.  I can understand though why Mrs JW wouldn't want to walk it again.  Very Happy  Nice finds.

Doing well conquering those hills JW, hope you don't have to look for more stamina than gold finds next time out. Nice photos and waterworn gold, don't think anyone is going to find source gold with a metal detector in that kind of terrain.

Ah Kiwijw.

I hate to say this but you have truly embarrassed me on this occasion lol!

It has just taken me eight days to achieve 5 for 0.70 grams here in Vic. In my defence I am going to say that the mozzies made sure that I was not out for much more than a couple of hours at a time and I finally threw in the sponge on Friday morning after my second encounter with a brown snake about 1.5 metres. affraid affraid They seem to normally head off but after a couple of minutes this one decided to come straight for me.

Never usually too concerned about the ones I see, but the ones I don't see tend to worry me a bit.  V56

Congratulations once again on your fine performance and great to see some great new pics of the country you operate and work in.

Hope your next outing is just as rewarding.

Beautiful scenery indeed Mr & Mrs JW. M8,you would absolutely kill it,on gold of that size, traversing through razorback country, with an SDC 2300,not alone what you might come up with at depth, using the GPZ 7000. Once again thanking you both, for sharing your adventures with us. cheers
