If you go to Forestry Corporation NSW you can download and apply for a Fossicking Permit which covers all of NSW State Forests.
On that site are maps and conditions applicable which can be printed.
The cost for 1yr. is $27.50.
I don't think there are any permit/licence requirements for detectors, picks and shovels in NSW yet, but I dare say its being considered somewhere Rolling Eyes

thanks for the information Dave, yes had a look at the the fossicking rules, some very strange regulations such as a bag limit on the amount of gold you are allowed to take in a day 50 grams or 5 nuggets over 10 grams! what beauracratic twat thought that one up? if you find six bits over ten grams are you supposed to throw it back, or maybe they think if we release a few they will spawn and there will be more nuggets next season

You are supposed to hand it over, so it can be cashed in to fund spurious travel costs
