Gob Smacked

Post  Idigem on Sun Mar 05, 2017 5:06 pm

Just had a browse at forest explorer and was astounded at the number of nature conservation areas,
Also read the sticky re diodiversity etc. and the logic re international tourists, if these left wing nutters
need think that is going to happen, they are dreaming. We were in the NT last year and the government
Up there are trying to get more prospectors to come there because they know what it means to local
Economies. Last year in the QLD town of t
Theodore they did a survey over one week and found that grey nomads spent just over $ 5000.

I hear you Idigem. New reserves/parks in regional areas in NSW rarely come close to reaching expectations in visitation and socio/economic returns to the local community. The value of prospecting to many communities is underestimated or not considered in NSW. Many other states especially WA and NT have embraced prospectors realizing the dollars they spend in van parks, servos, shops etc can help a town like a Sandstone, Nullagine, Hill End or Glen Innes survive and thrive.

In NSW they took away our legislated fossicking areas and we are losing good gold and gem fossicking spots to NPWS and Lands leasing out commons/reserves on a regular basis.

That's why I support NAPFA, but it also important to tell people you meet in prospecting towns, pollies and anyone you bump into in NSW that prospecting is a significant driver of regional economies in the places where gold and gems occur.

Maybe it's time for civil disobedience.

One of the first things you learn in Conservation and Land Management is that sedimentation is not turbidity, and vice verca. Turbidity in waterways is due to the soil in the area, not to activity. Sediment does settle - turbidity won't.

We are in this impasse due to woosy boys who don't backfill their holes, or don't take their rubbish home with them, and then there is the emotion involved with certain people who think they are Social Justice Warriors [SJW's].

Maybe we need to prospect in any reasonable crown land creek and river, get pinged, have our equipment impounded and have the situation heard in court, rather than just pay the fines.

Maybe we need to draw attention to ourself.

If they allow 4WD's, horses, dirt bikes, mountain bikes &c. into state and national parks, then equally they should allow hobby prospectors and fossickers as well.
