Thinking of selling my GPX 5000 and upgrading!

Post  MTB Digger on Mon Apr 24, 2017 9:12 am

Thinking about selling my GPX 5000 (purchased from EE Day & Sons Ballarat) complete with spare battery to control box lead, Car Charger, Wall Charger, Coiltek GoldStalker 14"x9" Coil, 11" Commander Mono Coil, 7" Commander Mono Coil, 11" Commander Double D Coil. My question is what should my asking price?

My thought would be to ask Mark Day what would he give you as a trade-in, and work slightly above that. It depends on what you are trading it in on though. Five's aren't going for a very high price these day's because of the 4500 new price being around the $3400 mark. They are cheaper than a 2300.

thinking of upgrade

Post  gpxman on Mon Apr 24, 2017 2:40 pm

hi mate
I just upgraded and the results aren't anything to spectacular in my opinion a gpx 5000 with 15 and 12 inch evos does not miss enough too worry about, yes the zed is better but 5k better I don't think so been going over some good patches and have not pulled a decent nugget out whether they be deep or shallow nothing over a gram over 100 pieces in 5 trips and id pulled 25ozs out of these areas deep and shallow.

I'd be asking around 4000 for the gpx if you really set on the Z

Just my opinion gpx man
ps I wont be selling my 5 any time soon

It's worth whatever someone will pay, just sell it with the coils that were standard with it and sell the extra coils separately, you will probably end up with a bit more $ this way.

And the 7 is quite a bit better than the 5 or 45, I know ours have been relegated to backups and just use the 7 and 23 as our main weapons of choice. Very Happy

Granted the GPX's did take a lot of gold and at good depths, if there is nothing much left in those spots then it won't matter which detector you use as none of them re-make gold, but I do know in some spots there is a lot that was missed or not seen by the GPX's.

Whatever you choose to do have fun.

I'd say that's what he means. I have an sdc as well as well as a gpx and would be happy to sell it after seeing what the zed can do in a small shallow gold situation to 10 inches or so. Deeper ground and bigger gold like over a gram where the gpx and evo's shine, it's got a lot of catching up to do to prove to me that it's a keeper. Yeah I'll admit it sees gold the x's can't but I know very well x's can see gold a zed cannot. I tossed up for nine months to buy or not to buy and now I'm still not sure if I've made a good decision.

Its funny gpx man.
I reckon the 7000 has a hole in its armour between the 1 - 2 gm mark too where the 5000 kills it. But thats just my observations. Smaller than that the 7 wins though.

Hoolahoopa.. I hope your wrong.
I don't have enough time on the Z to really comment. I have picked up a good amount of gold coming behind after a zed or two in some spots with the gpx though not a lot have been over the gram mark. I will be happy to admit its the s**t when and if it proves it. I'll be out for another 8 hours tomorrow will work a prickly reef gold spot in medium depth hot ground which I know holds deeper gold as I dug a 4x5 meter area 200mm deep got half an ounce out of after detecting 3 ozs earlier. Fingers crossed it mite nab a nice piece.
I'll admit it definitely goes deeper on smalls, 103 pieces for 16grams is not my cup of tea.
