GPX5000 tracking/fixed issues

Post  TuronYellowFever on Mon Apr 24, 2017 5:23 pm

G'day prospectors

I've recently upgraded to a gpx5000 from an sdc2300. I've only had it a couple of weeks and I'm in love with it already, however, it works fine in tracking but when I set it to fixed and hold the button down it just blanks the machine out and won't allow me to ground balance. Am I doing something wrong here ? I would really prefer to be in fixed.

cheers Matt

No, not in specific. I have just been reading that I can maybe unplug the button and balance by flicking switch to tracking, pumping coil etc then back to fixed ? Like old gp machines

Matt,
When you are in tracking, if you put some metal under the coil and press the button does it keep screaming, or does it tune the target out? If it doesn't keep screaming, I would think the button isn't connecting properly. But I don't know what other settings you are in, so I may be mistaken.

There is a GPX5000 settings "Sticky" in the detectors/5000 & 4800 section

I'm aware of that thanks Nickdec ....there's no discussion on quick trak button issues there however

Matt,
Sorry if I am telling you to suck eggs.

The button doesn't do much:
When in Tracking mode, initially it beeps after you have held it in for a few seconds when first in tracking mode. If you press it while in tracking mode it changes the detector to manual ground tracking.
When in manual tracking, if you press it it puts the detector in auto tracking.

Shouldn't go silent

Cheers

Sorry nicdeck I think you are not right in what you are saying. If you are in Tracking (auto tracking) and press the button it Beeps but that changes nothing, it is in Tracking and will automatically adjust to the changing ground conditions. However with the Fixed (manual tracking) if you press the button it re-adjusts itself to the ground conditions at that spot. So if you are in a spot that is fairly quiet you can run it in Fixed because the ground conditions are not changing constantly and apparently you get more depth running in Fixed, and if you come in to an area that is noisier just hit the button and re-adjust.

I understand the way it works is if you are in Fixed, when you press the button, it puts the machine in Tracking (that is how it tunes to the ground). When you are in tracking, you disable the ground tuning by pressing the button because it puts it in Fixed. Not quite sure how else it would work really.
Cheers

Pressing in fixed puts it in fast tracking for a short time.
Pressing in tracking puts it in fixed for locating a target.
Press and release in tracking gives a beep and puts it in fast tracking for 3 seconds. This is used when the tracking is too slow to keep up with the changing ground.
