A pictorial history of the victorian goldfields by james flett

Post  Shinegold on Fri May 12, 2017 9:55 pm

Has anyone heard of this book? Seems rather expensive online:
https://www.amazon.com/James-Flett/e/B001KCBPJ2

I have a copy, is there anything in there that would make it valuable? Mainly pics of old towns and goldfields.

I have not seen that particular book but he also authored The History of Gold Dicovery in Victoria which is a very interesting book and has good research opportunity as it is very detailed,

Flett Book

Post  goldrat on Tue May 16, 2017 4:48 pm

I was over at Wedderburn Jamboree a month ago , specifically to go to to the town garage sale and I pick up a copy 1st edition for $2.00 , couldn't believe my luck . It was the only Flett publication I didn't have . Just for interest I bought an old rusty tin at the very next house for $4 and then when I got home under some old cloth I was the proud owner of approx 150 - 200 coins badges and army memorabilia medals and medallions . I just lucked in for a change .

Cheers

Well done Peter on your find.
The reason why that Flett book is rear and normally cost a lot is that there were not many printed, specially the 1st edition. I know Jame Flett, son and daughter inlaw quite well and they were telling me that was a limited edition. Also there will be no more pubications of "The History of Gold Discovery in Victoria". So if anyone has that book hang on to it.
