"They said the men recognised they had done the wrong thing, mistakenly thinking the mine was inactive."

Classic...these people are gold thieves...end of. Ignorance is no excuse under the law. They knew exactly what they were doing and got caught.
The onus is on each prospector to know where they are prospecting over here in the West....going where you like is not on.

Hopefully more of these prosecutions and convictions to come.

Old news from a few years ago. Handy reminder though, the Gold Squad are everywhere.

"Dividing the gold into $13,000 shares, the men attempted to sell the gold via a Facebook post, which brought them to the attention of the WA Police Gold Stealing Detection Unit." ...........4 x $13K....I make that $52.000  scratch

"Warren, Rowe and Forward had already pleaded guilty to stealing $62,392 worth of gold from the tenement near the ghost town of Kunanalling, 32km north of Coolgardie." $52 K or $62K...  scratch which one was it?

still regardless of any inconsistencies in reported amounts I guess we would all be pissed off if it was our gold Wink

Wayne. cheers

Knew exactly what they were doing, until they posted it on Facebook..Specimen 'sticking out of the ground?' ...after they dug a 1m hole
