How good is the 8" Commander Coil !!

Post  Wombat on Sun Jul 16, 2017 3:36 pm

I found this old Brass Tap (or what is left of it) down 16" next to a mullock heap, with the Minelab 8" Commander coil. The tap weighed 124.5 gms with dirt. I got a good mild mallow sound telling me to dig. I was in the same good ground where I had found gold earlier that day. While digging I just thought "this has to be gold at this depth. But no, just a brass tap. But it did show me that if it was gold around 4oz at that depth, the 8" Commander would have picked it up. What a great little coil !!. I also picked up on the day just over 2.5 gms. Biggest being 1.6 gms at about 6" down.

It's certainly a beauty. My favourite coil that I used on the SD2000 back in February 2014 up until I bought the Coiltek Elite 14" Mono in June 2015.
It found lots of gold and quite a lot of other items at considerable depth.

Regards Axtyr.

Gem, deeper I dug more excited I got. At the end it was blasting out my ear bums. But, Oh well better luck next time.

Deutran, I also have a 12" N/F Evolution Coil that I use to cover big areas and patch hunting. But I seem to enjoy the 8" better on mullock heaps. It's always great to get a bit of yellow to take home and the 8" hardly ever lets me down.

Axtry mate, it's been my favorite coil ever since I got it. And it has found me good size gold deep, more than once.

Hi Bill
Just wondering about the weight of the 12"Evo and how sensitive it is compared to the 14x9Evo we have.Carol uses the 14x9Evo a lot due to the weight of the 14"Elite being a bit much. The only issue is its a bit over sensitive even though it pings the small ones deep really well I was thinking of going to the 12"Evo for her.Are you using the 12" with a 5000 Fine gold or enhance or a 4500 I can't remember which machine you have.

Nice deep dig Bill Smile At least you know if you get over a slug you will have it...Yes the 8 inch Minelab coil is still a very good and useful coil, but i like the extra depth the 12 inch Evo provides...Anyway may it be gold next time Wombat Smile

Cheers
Bill

Hi deutran
The 12" Evo is 840 grams. It's a very good coil on flat ground. This is why I use the 8 " on mullock heaps because of all the humps & bumps. I use both coils on my 5000 in Fine Gold settings.
Cheers mate
