Prospecting in January 2018 , where Is the least hot place to go please ?

Post  Jujeff on Sat Jul 29, 2017 9:25 pm

Hi
We have flights booked for January 2018 , as yet only to Bangkok , we want to prospect in Australia, around the kalgoorlie area for around 2 weeks , we have been informed this is a very hot time to go prospecting, so my Q is ..
Is there a less hot place to prospect in January in AUSTRALIA ??? we understand different areas have different climates , is this the case ?

Also, if anyone can help out with providing any info on tour companies or guides that prospect in January that would also be fantastic ....

Many thanks

JuJeffs holiday.

Post  mungoman on Sun Jul 30, 2017 9:17 am

Jujeff. It can be done. Just. Get up early and start about 4 in the morning - work through for 3 or 4 hours and get your fines, and then do your processing. Go yabbying or rest your back against a smooth barked Gum tree until about 6 in the arvo and get into it for another couple of hours. Save those tailings until the next day. Eat. Sleep, Repeat.

And good luck mate.

Hi mate, I have to agree with the other comments. Don't go anywhere in Central Australia at that time of year, you'll roast. Temperature normally 40c.+. If needs be head south down to Victoria. They to have hot weather at that time of year but not as bad as Central Aus. We also have day light savings at that time of year. This will give you a chance to head out prospecting in the cool of the morning and the late in the afternoon. This is what most of use do at that time of the year. We also have a couple of tour guides here as well that can help you. Gold & Relics Gold Adventure Tours, and Aussie Prospecting just to name 2.
If you need more info PM me.

Diary of a pom in Western Australia

August 31st
Just got transferred with work into our new home in Karratha, Western Australia, now this is a town that knows how to live!! Beautiful sunny days and warm balmy evenings.

What a place! I watched the sunset from a deck chair on the veranda. It was beautiful. I've finally found my my home. I love it here.

September 13th

Really heating up. Got to 35 today. Not a problem. Live in an air-conditioned home, drive an air-conditioned car. What a pleasure to see the sun everyday like this. I'm turning into a sun worshipper.

September 30th

Had the backyard landscaped with tropical plants today. Lots of palms and rocks. What a breeze to maintain. No more mowing lawn for me. Another scorcher today, but i love it here.

October 10th

This temperature hasn't been below 35 all week. How do people get used to this kind of heat.

At least today it's kind of windy though. But getting used to the heat is taking longer than I expected.

October 15th

Fell asleep by the pool. Got 3rd degree burns over 60% of my body. Missed 3 days of work. What a dumb thing to do. I learned my lesson though. Got to respect the ol' sun in a climate like this.

October 20th

I missed Kitty (our cat) sneaking into the car when I left this morning. By the time i got to the hot car for lunch, Kitty had died and swollen up to the size of a shopping bag and stank up the $3,000 leather upholstery. I told the kids that she ran way. The car now smells like Wiskettes and cat sh1t. I learned my lesson though. No more pets in this heat.

October 25th

The wind sucks. It feels like a giant fxxking blow dryer!! And its hot as hell. The home air-conditioner is on the blink and the AC repairman charged $200 just to drive over and tell me he needed to order parts.

October 30th

Been sleeping outside by the pool for 3 nights now. Bloody $600,000 house and we can't even go inside.

Why did I ever come here

November 4th

Its 38 degrees. Finally got the ol' air-conditioner fixe today. It cost $1,500 and gets the temp down to 25, but the bloody humidity makes the house feel like its about 30. Stupid repairman.

I hate this stupid fxxkin place.

November 8th

If another wise A*s* cracks, "hot enough for you today" I'm going to fxxkin throttle him. Fxxkin heat!

By the time I get to work, the car's radiator was boiling over, my clothes are soaking fukin wet, and I smell like baked cat!!

November 9th

Tried to run some messages agyer work. Worse shorts, and sat on the black leather seats in the ol' car.

I though my fxxkin A*s* was on fire. I lost to layers of flesh and all the hair on the back of my legs and my fxxkin A*s*. Now my car smells like burnt hair, fried ass and baked cat.

November 10th

The weather report might aswell be a fxxkin recording. Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny. Hot and fukin sunny.

It's been too hot to do anything for 2 damn months and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week. Doesn't it ever rain in this damn fukin place? Water rationing will be next, so my $5,000 worth of palms just might dry up and bow into the fukin pool. Even the palms can't live in this fxxkin heat.

November 14th

Welcome to HELL!!!! Temperature got to 41 today. Now the air-conditioner's gone in my car.

The repairman came to fix i and said "hot enough for you today?"

My wife had to spend the $2,500 mortgage payment to bail my ass out of fail for assaulting the stupid fxxker. Fxxk Karratha! What kind of sick demented fukin idiot would want to live here?

December 1st

WHAT????? This is the first day of Summer??? You are fxxkin kiddin!!!

Hi again Jujeff

If you do decide that victoria is the place too go..  what we call the golden triangle
you can detect and do the tourist thing,
In marybrough vic, theres coiltek gold centre.
http://thegoldcentre.com.au/gold-prospecting-tours.aspx
So you could try detecting in the cooler part of the day..
check out the sites when its too warm to be out in the hot sun detecting

Than theres paul stoppsy who also does training days..
https://m.facebook.com/Aussie-Gold-Prospector-Victoria-Tours-364613297240242/
gpx4000@hotmail.com

Best thing to do is ring around and get as much info as you can, then decide from there..
I wish you all the best of luck..
enjoy your hoildays

Is gold prospecting for foreigners classed as working in WA ?

Post  Jujeff on Thu Aug 03, 2017 11:12 pm

Hi
Someone has said to us that we can't prospect in oz as a foreigner as this is classed as working and we won't have a work permit ,is this correct ? ( we don't think so but now just want to double check)
Also, if we were lucky enough to find gold while there are we allowed legally to take it home with us back to Blighty , or does it all have to be smelted and cashed before we leave ?
Many thanks in advance for your replies ....

Hi Jen
Oh ok no worries .
Hi Jen
The reason I mentioned to hook up is that , I am trying to connect with others (newbies or advanced) who are there the same time as us) and perhaps hook up with them for safety reasons, and of course, if your with people who have done this before (as we haven't) gaining some knowledge while actually there is a bonus .
We definitely will be doing tours /guides etc, prob for the first 2weeks of being there , but may want to venture out a little way on our own for the last part , and this is where the hook ups would come in handy for all concerned .

Also Jen , my above post re: taking gold home , can you shed any light on the two q' s ?
Many thanks ...

G'day Jujeff and Welcome to the forum.

We met up with a young fellow from the UK a few years ago who hired a camper and traveled around and also brought over his own detector and found gold over here. I'm pretty sure he had no problems with taking his gold home with him. He did have a WA miners right which are $25.00 Au for life. I'm pretty sure when you prospect for gold over here it is just classed as a hobby, but I would do some more checking at your end about that. As you are only coming overseas on a holiday I can't see how they would class it as work. scratch Anyway I wish you both good luck with your up coming holiday for next year. Very Happy

Cheers.

Mike.

Some gold tour groups will let you stay on the land they take you too.. plus you will make good friends on these tour's. ( i did )

you would be better off staying close to a major town.. like Kalgoorlie, as where I go to detect
If something was to happen to you.. the nearest big hospital is over 400ks away. This is depending on where we decide to go, as each year is different..
The W.A outback isnt somewhere i would like to be responsible for another person's health and safety
There are snakes.. red back spiders. Deep mine shafts. Dingo's, camels.

As for the legality of your situation.. I have no idea.
I am sure there will be some members here that should be able to help you.

Hi mike
Thank you so much for your reply ,
Oh that's sounds good , yes I will do some more digging around ahaha , but that's what we pretty much felt too .
We will be getting our minors right before we leave England , and also a 40E permit , this will all be in place when we land .
Oh nice to know you hooked up with someone else , was this on a paid for tour? or just as a friendly Aussie

Your so right!
Its not easy like some may think..
It is a lot of walking and swinging of the detector, and hopefully swing your coil over a nuggy
