Ground Penetrating Radar

Post  adrian ss on Fri Feb 02, 2018 8:32 am

A GPR unit is being used to attempt to locate the Missing Beaumont children.
This will be a good proving ground for this type of detection unit. Hopefully the search will be successful.
There are various types of these GPR detectors and it will be interesting to see if the one being used in this search has actually located a patch of long ago disturbed ground.

Yes , hopefully by 5pm they will have a result. As far as say for example a Minelab GPR, imagine if you could look at a screen and see gold nuggets. It would be spectacular as would be the price.

The GPR can work well in sandy ground but not in dense clay based ground. It does not work well in wet salty ground.
GPR can image excavated and back filled ground. It cannot ID bone.

So the ground where the search is taking place is likely to be sandy and if there is anything at the bottom of the suspect area that is magnetically different from the surrounding back filled ground then it should be detected with the GPR.
I guess we are all keen to find out what the radar has detected.

Here is a bit of info re GPR.

I did have a look / think about using one to detect ironstone boulders ,in opal mining . Got in touch with a mob in Brisbane but gave up the idea because of cost .

Yeah they seem to range between 6000 and 30,000 dollars US. There are a few second hand units on ebay.
If I had the money to toss around and the use for the item I would give the QS5 a good look at.

Sadly for the parents who are now in their nineties . Hopefully it will be expanded in that site.Recent evidence suggests at last they are on the right trail.I doubt if the previous owner of this site would commit one terrible atrocity and then stop.Gut feeling says theres more to this

The large animal could be on top of something else??
I agree. People who do this type of crime seldom do it just once

For those that missed the ch7 report the other nite, the owner of the site, harry phipps, has asked two teens to dig a hole on his factory (castalloy) site at  the time of the disappearance. He paid each with a fresh one pound note. They last the beaumont children were seen was at a shop where they paid with a fresh one pound note for cakes and a pie for "the man".A pound was a large amount of money for a child to have.Phipps son said that there were 3 children at there house on the day.His son  had lived a terrible life and died recently.A school girl who had been sexually abused (couldnt come forward at the time because her father would of beat her and said it was her fault for wearing short school dress with was the fashion of the time) She came forward when she saw a story on hole being dug and identikit image of last person seen with them.Which has a likeness to phipps. The book "the satin man" explains the above
Hope that helps, couldnt make a living as a film reviewer
