hi there
check the fuel pressure at rail if ok then check injectors may have a bad one leaking down. some time with this problem you may get white smoke on first start up Rolling Eyes

Your friend changed the cold start injector switch? Does this mean he put another secondhand, possibly dud switch in or did he fit a new one?

A cold start switch normally increases the length of time the injectors stay open to allow more fuel for cold start. Bypassing this would shorten the pulse time making it harder to start when cold.
Maybe the Engine temperature sensor that gives the signal to the injector time switch is not working, or the air temp thermistor.
As Goldminer says, also a fuel rail pressure check may be in order. Could also be a poor fuel pressure pump or blocked fuel filter.
