Alternative to gum boots

Often found gum boots to be rather a burden. If it's warm they chafe the back of my calves. Then the penny dropped. I have rubber diving shoes. They are ribbed on the bottom so they are not too slippery. Ideal for warmer areas where you don't mind if your feet get wet and just so much easier to get around. You can get them at dive shops and they are probably a bit cheaper than gum boots.

I don't get it, if it's that wet that you need gum boots it's surely to wet for a detector or are you panning

maybe the gumboots are taipan proofing his legs up in QLD

I was thinking about sloshing around in a creek bed when panning.

I'm unsure how good they would be (i dive as well). Of course they won't do much to keep your feet dry, in fact, once they are filled with water, they seem to keep it in there quite well. I personally don't like having wet feet for extended periods. If you are tossing around dirt and small stones etc, and walking through water with stirred up silt, you might get a lot of annoying visitors in your boots, which is, well, annoying(i suppose gaiters can help with that). Yes, they do have pretty decent grip on the bottom, for rock hopping, but they don't offer much by the way of support, in any of the areas you want it if you are going to be walking around for extended periods. My 2c.

Considering the inconvenience of gumboots my experience is that the dive boots are really much more comfortable. Doesn't bother me having wet feet and didn't have the kind of problems referred to above. But anyway, am not looking to pass legislation to make it compulsory to wear dive boots. An alternative that I just find much better.

I thought I was the only one who wore dive boots!! a bonus is that even with water in em they kep yer feet warm.
