X Terra 705. Anyone found anything?
I had only owned my 705 for a month or so and found these within a week of each other. Found the sixpence first. When I discovered the little .23gm nug the battery indicator had just dropped one bar, so not alot of hours spent in a "flogged out" area with an L plater behind the wheel! Must be an OK machine

Well done phil, photos and info on the 705 are always welcome here.I would like to get one of these for my wife as they are lightweight and well priced and obviously a capable machine. Also they are usable in areas of EMI,parks and relic hunting etc.

Re: X Terra 705. Anyone found anything?
Thanks Kingfish so far it has been a dream to use. I borrowed a ML 3500 before I bought the X terra and even if the XT doesn't have the power of the 3500 I will stick with it for now as it has so many things going for it: its light and 4 aa batteries last at least 25 hours, the learning curve is alot less steep and prob best of all you can reach all the buttons with one hand, leaving the other free to smoke, drink, dig etc. It has a backlight too which I have not used as yet (wear a headlamp) but would certainly have its place in certain situations. I also like the fact that it has a variable threshold and manual/auto ground balance and I could go on an on. Has found me my first bit anyway

Cheers Pete, I hope so. Now its just a matter of getting out there and putting my few skills to the test. Takes me about an hour to drive to the spot where I found the coin and little nuggy and the funny thing was they were found within 50 metres of each other, on opposite sides of the creek. Have been doing some research into the areas closer to home that I would be able to hit after work but not having alot of success so far. Travel is getting quite expensive at the moment with diesel at or above $1.55 lt here

Re: X Terra 705. Anyone found anything?
Hi Billy,
Firstly, congrats on your finds!
Secondly, thank you as you have inspired me a little more. I am looking to purchase a Xterra 705 in the coming months and at the moment I am working 7 days a week in order to do so. I considered the Gpx series and other PI machines but from all the reviews that I have read the Xterra is the one that will best suit my 'newbie' needs. So all in all, to see that you have found a couple of 'treasures' whilst still learning with your 705 drives me a little harder towards the goal. I would be interested to hear of anything else that you find in your travels
I hear you on the petrol prices, it just hit $1.49 for normal unleaded down here, therefore diesil down here will climb a little higher as well.
Happy hunting and let us know how you go.
Nature Pete.

Re: X Terra 705. Anyone found anything?
Cheers for the cheers N P. Am over the moon with the little 705 it just feels like a good unit and has proven that it will find gold if I walk over it (the gold that is). Once I had my budget/limit, I read everything that I could find relating to it (along with at least 3 other detectors) and was hard pressed to find many negative things written about it. Have only used it on a goldfield so far but guess if it can handle that then most other locations will see it perform just as well.
So IMHO stick with your game plan and hope to see you out there one day and we can compare notes.
Petrol prices BAH!!!
P.S. Pete, have found lots and lots oh and lots of lead too

Try a Beach
I haven't personally used the Xterra 705 yet, BUT, I have just had a neighbour in the Caravan Park that I am in show me her latest finds.
She is relatively new at this but still managed to pick up $247.00 in $1. & $2. coins from one of the large beaches near Denmark in W.A.!
Mind you she is very keen and was swinging her Xterra around within minutes of anyone pulling their tent down and leaving the park.
At present she is on her way up into the Laverton area to try her luck with the "other coil"
It really does seem very easy to master when you compare it to the 4500!
Maybe I should swap my 4500 for something simpler?

Fair bit cheaper too
Can't comment on anything above the 3500 and even with that machine I never did the amount of hours required to really get to know it.
Have found the learning curve on the 705 to be far more gentle without loosing some of the great features of the more expensive machine.
I liken it to my first car, a paddock basher that still had power, great to learn some driving skills in, and got you from A to B. Cost:$200.
Then when paid jobs came along and driving experience increased a better car was bought. Cost $15000.
When you break it all down both cars and detectors (cheap and expensive) do the same job but in a bit different way. 2 bobs worth.

Re: X Terra 705. Anyone found anything?
we use a 705 as a pinpointer when using a big coil on the 5000. it is also able to identify the target and saves a lot of time on digging rubbish, you can also use it very close to other detectors without interference, but the best bit is the kids love to come with us and use the 705 to dig the target after being found by the 5000. the look on their faces when they dig up a nugget is priceless.
