Nice, would have been a enjoyable day out. Amazing how small bits still manage to give off a signal.

Oh WOW !
They're amazing wee bits.
You must have your detector well tuned to sniff out those.
Are you using a v.small coil ?
Well done !
Cheers !

How on earth do you detect 0.03g ????
Is that with a GPX5000 and 6" coil or something ???
Amazing stuff !

Hi Chookfoot,

It amazes me also - Found with a 4500 using a 8" Commander. The nugget was on the surface with the coil right on the ground. It gave a reasonable signal which was persistent ---- low and slow is what I do What a Face

Well done guys, any gold is good to find no matter how big.
Gotta ask, how long does it take from the first dig to the time its in the hand for those small bits?
I assume its hard to pinpoint with the coil and just as hard to find it when its out?

WOW! You guys must have excellent eyesight to find those. Old age is catching up with me and there's no way I'd be able to find those in the ground, let alone hear them. Great work!

G'day TheGoldenChild,

Yes a little tougher to pinpoint - but you know its a small target so I just take small scoops and listen carefully when I wave the scoop over the coil.

I just know I need to pay more attention when dealing with tiny tiny bits of Gold Very Happy

I've chased little targets around the hole on numerous occasions only to have them disappear on me... hate it when that happens.
I've done some experiments with a 0.05g spec I got in the pan once, I can sort of hear it at about 1" away from the coil (4500 & 11NF mono).
What's your favorite settings for this sort of work ? Tho I guess it's very ground dependent it would be interesting to know.
Small careful scoops sounds like a good idea.
Thanks guys.

i really like the 14 x 7 for pinpointing and its a solid coil, not spoked. it seems to me to have about the same performance as the 11" comander.
iv`e never used a scoop. i just pick up handfuls of dirt and when i think the target is in my hand i drop the dirt on the back of the coil and push the dirt around the coil until i find the target
cheers

The problem is when putting coil to ground it does gets a little noisy and at times fatiguing ...lowering the Gain and or Stabilizer settings is the only answer.

Different settings for differing situations...its endless me thinks Very Happy

Great work phoenix and ararat. I hope to get into the Triangle next week for a couple of days. Things should be a bit quieter after Easter. Posts like this one give me just the inspiration I need.
