Suggested settings for GPX4500

Post  ROCKDOC69 on Wed Jun 08, 2011 8:56 pm

Ok- Ground has hot rocks strewn throughout (not heaps, but enough for VLF to keep buzzing and me to keep digging),Ground is 100mm topsoil, then into scree/tossed out soil strewn with QTZ. bedrock= yellow clay-broken down siltstone with hotrocks scattererd throughout. Region is edge of 'Golden Triangle' VICTORIA, South of Castlemaine...No Basalt around or red soil. Ridges have Outcrops/ Qtz Reef - iron stained and in some parts brecciated In Part - I'm mainly working the flanks down slope and the reefs, not much rubbish - as if I care therefore no discrimination!
The BIG question: Suggested settings for GPX4500 11" MONOCOIL cheers

NightJar-Well that was confusing! I was almost sold on the ENHANCE mode before seeing that video.yeh I have the instruction book and have read it back to front, but think experience beats books. Luckily I am having a 3 hour training course up at Bendigo tomorrow, so will finally get the chance to touch my expensive G(PX)spot..as for the settings, will run in fixed Gb (if I can) with Normal....?
Will pick the trainers brains as well as the forums-if I get anymore posts.
Thanks NightJar bounce

Hi Rockdoc,
We always have the 4500 in Enhance and when chaining always use the Minelab 11" mono.
There are many variables and it is always worthwhile trying different settings when you get a target. especially the faint mellow signals.
Everyone has their favourites so it is up to you personally to set the machine to your own which give you the best results.
Cheers

Hi ROCKDOC69, iv done a bit round Castlemaine, just off the Irish Town Rd near the scout camp and water tanks, and what you described with the ground sounds similar.
However the detector i was using was the 3000 at the time, not the 4500.
Normal timings with the 4500 wont cut it there and will cause you to give up altogether i reckon.
If i was working that ground again with the 4500 and the 11" mono this is what id be doing.
Front end cap switches if using the General search mode.
Enhance, fixed, mono.
Menu.
Motion=V/slow
Gain= 8-12
Audio= Normal or Boost
Stabilizer = 5-8 pending the EMI maybe lower..?
Target volume 20
Swing speed low & slow, and to clarify the meaning because some unless shown have little idea of low & slow.... not saying your one.
In that ground and ground similar it would take me 3 sec to swing from left to right, and keeping my coil as close to the ground as possible, just skimming the surface.
Ground balancing is best described in the video below by JP.
Pay close attention to the bit of having a flat coil to the ground, especially a mono because the operator most of the time cannot see the tip of his/her coil dipping down or dipping up slightly, and its enough to cause an in correct balance.
