Metal free boots

Hi All
Just thought I would let people know I found a good detecting leather boot that doesn't have any metal in it at all.
I tried a few types but all had some metal in them which caused problems.
I now use the Australian made Rossi all leather with elastic sides like a RM Williams boot, they have a solid nose RU-Nitrile heat/acid/oil resistant sole and don't cost much , I got mine for $65 and they are holding up well to hard use.

The boot model was Rossi 303 Endura I just checked the box they came in and it had been marked down on special
normal price was $115 I paid a lot less than that but even at the full price they are worth it.

Redback boots are Australian made too. nice and comfy and no metal. got em for $65 as well.

Your right chopppacalamari , Redbacks are great detecting boots.

Use a pair of running shoes, sneakers, gym shoes, basketball shoes, track shoes, lightweight hikers, etc. whatever you want to call them, you know what I mean. With no metal lace eyelets or hooks being totally metal free. Like the kinds made from Nike, Adidas, Brooks, Puma, Asics, Solomon, along with cheap Asian knock-offs, etc. There are usually 2 heights, under the ankle and over the ankle. Also make sure you get a firm and solid sole for the bottom of the shoes for walking over rocks--scraping with the side of the shoe and also a good protected toe part.

I wear Dunlop Volley's and keep the coil away from my feet as i am sure there is no Gold in my shoes

though I'd not deny the good sense behind wearing boots without metallic laceholes etc which naturally includes the well respected Blundstones and Rossis, I've personally never found a problem with the calf length military boots I habitually wear - and HM Queen & Co has bequeathed me a good supply on retirement. Yes, I occasionally hear a ping when one my feet gets too close to the search coil which reminds me to be more careful. But I believe that ankle support and some protection from the biters in the bush more than compensates for the possibility of upsetting the detector's performance.

I hate to sound like a cranky old bastid brought up in the fifties and early sixties but to me, 'runners' and other soft shoes of the type (Nikes etc etc) which are seen constantly at the ends of all types of legs these days, are best used when you go for that early morning run or for a sweaty spell in the nearest gymnasium. Leather boots go best in the bush and the thicker the sole the better.

catseyes and volleys ooooooh the pain

volleys are disgustingly hard to get off...when a cactus has nailed them to your feet

a large majority of bush related injuries are sprains and twisted ankles... from miss footing etc.. you can't stress enough the need for good sturdy and comfortable footwear.

What are some brands of boots with no steel in them? Anyone know?

Hi there, I have tried a few different types, settled on the Rossi.
They are tight around the top section(I have a big bony foot) but once they loosen up a bit they are the best.

G day claimpeg i'm interested in this too as i've been wearing Blundstone 500 boots for many years. They were an excellent light weight hard wearing slip on with great traction that were made in Tasmania but are now made in china and when i replaced my last pair i went from a size 11 to a size 12 and they were still a bit tight. hmm my foot must have grown, dont think so, i've had no problems but couldn't recommend them anymore. + there no cheaper !

Steel Blue - Hi PA series are metal free, but they also have the added advantage of being safe room compliant anti-static, (I tested mine, they passed after an hour of wear, socks need to be a little sweaty) which means that static charges that may have normally jumped to ground via your coil, are very quietly dissipated via your boot soles. Static charges between the coil and ground can be the cause of lots of noise on the detector, and plastic coil shells can act as a storage capacitor.

I've got a pair of Hi PA, but have not used them enough yet to know if it's got rid of any of the spike noises we often attribute to the weather, but may often be our own bodies, especially if we're wearing clothes made of man-made fibres, and the day's hot and dry.

going well.

I use a pair of light weight high neck soft leather military boots that are issued to our defence forces.
They have an excellent hard wearing sole & good ankle support.
You can pick them up in military disposal stores.

Can be used both, to repair old favorite shoes that are torn--falling apart--hole in the sole and also used on the "outside of the shoe" for a "shield protection" for prospectors scraping away dirt with the inside part of the shoe-foot and the toe part. They say to spread it with an "ice cube" when coating the outside of a shoe.

Still using "Redbacks", I think this is my 3rd or 4th season with the same pair now, they are definately in better condition than my memory thats for sure

Give them some polish or dubbin every now and then they stay waterproof and comfy.

Another vote for the Redbacks, got mine from Ray's Outdoors in Bendigo, comfy enough to walk around all day .

Next Time I buy shoes I'm taking My Metal Detector.................

No need to take your detector to the shop -
surely a smallee Neodymium/Super Magnet would be easier !!

For the record, I went through the 'metal-free boots' thing a couple of years ago and
ended up getting a pair of "Gladiator" brand boots from the ' Shoe Kay ' [sic] for about $60.
They are metalfree, used to be described as Goth or skinhead boots .... they are bright YELLOW leather ... how about that !
But ... they do have metal eyelets. However, these only create a target signal iffen I jamb my
feetys' under the coil .... I'm just not that agile anymore

Not a dis-advantage at all ... as I use the eyelet signal to 'roadtest' my detector on the move,
without having to stop, pull out a 'test nugget,' throw it on the ground, detect it,
then bend down and retrieve it !! Saves a lot of time,believe me.
When you are over seventy, all that bending could be better used picking up newly-found nuggets !

However, my next pair of 'tecting boots will probably be Rossi or Redbacks'. Solid ankle support is mandatory for us seniors, together with a pair of suede leather gaiters.

Just ordered myself a pair of "metal free" Oliver boots. As I have to wear safety boots all the time, this is the best and most comfortable boots I have ever had. Oliver brought out this "metal free" boots which will take a lot of hassle away for the people who does fly-in and fly-out. You don't have to take off your boots at the airport anymore!

This is the "Rolex" when it comes to comfort, especially when spending a whole day on your feet detecting.

Just checked my old boots .... they are Olivers !!!

However, gave them quite a bashing last year ...
Cape River area, Palmer River, Charters Towers, Pentland and the Batavia/Wenlock goldfields.

Only just noticed that the heels are quite severely cracked already and only two years old.
Not to worry, methinks, probably matches my personality anyway ..............???
