fortunatley you don`t see many snakes around the vic gold fields but yesterday golden , wombat and i went out for a detect and as we were comming into Dunolly there was a 3-4 foot brown snake crossing the road . we stopped and watched him slither off into the grass

It seems there will be a population explosion across Australia with most of our native species.
A record number of turtles are mating on the NW coast is one example, as the food chain grows.
No doubt we will have to be vigilant in the goldfields next season and yes gaiters will be a must for protection against the slippery ones.

Picture could be a Hoax, but even if it was half this size I wouldn't like to come across it whilst swinging the coil.
