Maindample, Merton, Dry Creek,Growlers Gully, Hells Hole, and the Howqua.

These are the forgotten goldfields of Victoria - Maindample, Merton, Dry Creek,Growlers Gully, Hells Hole, and the Howqua. The rivers, creeks and gullies in these locations were extensively sluiced and dredged until government regulations before the turn of the last century concerning water quality put a stop to this form of mining. I reckon a hundred years of natural runoff would've seen some more of the yella stuff find it's way back into the watercourses, however these fields where not known for nuggetty gold so better you take your pan.
