Highly mineralised ground

Post  ian on Sun Nov 09, 2008 10:25 am

Howdy all

Am detecting a potential area that is very high in ironstone, lots of false signals. The area has no signs of previous workings no trash nor any records, interested to know how someone else would look at this type of ground with a detector.

I am using a GPX4500 with a nuggetfinder 16" Mono, and have the GPX setup pretty basic so as to try and cover some ground quickly, sometimes GB tracking and sometimes fixed, the ironstone is very attractive to a magnet and a fist sized piece can easily be picked up by one. It is wandoo bushland with some heavy undercover in areas.

interested to hear your thoughts folks.

Cheers
Ian

Morning Ian,
Sounds like you need to experiment with the range of settings. Spend an hour or three, instruction manual in hand, and try the various combinations. You can guarantee if you set it correctly hot rocks and ground noises are almost non existent.
Not knowing the ground you could start here.
My preferred method would be to select;
Ground balance = Specific
Soil Timings = Sensitive Smooth.

Let us know how you get on.
Cheers

Thanks peter, gave it a whirl and much quieter thanks.

Area is near the Julimar brook, we have land out here. for anyone thats interested, the geo map titled "Perth" from the geo survey of Australia shows this area as quite prospective??? as well as other surveys, ground is similar to Jimperding.

By the way, nice site you have Peter.

Cheers
Ian
